T.E. Lott & Company is not your everyday CPA firm. We have established a tradition of excellence. We take on new opportunities with a passion and accept the challenges offered by our clients with a willingness to serve – all while delivering powerful, timely and accurate results.
And T.E. Lott, Sr., fresh off a stint in the military and a short-lived career in teaching, opened an accounting firm in Columbus, Mississippi. A graduate of Millsaps College, Thomas became a Certified Public Accountant in 1926 and was issued Certificate #126 from the newly-formed Mississippi State Board of Accountancy.
From the beginning of his career, he placed a strong emphasis on banking and manufacturing industries and, today, T.E. Lott & Company (with over 60 employees in three branches: Columbus, Starkville, and Tuscaloosa, Ala.) continues to follow in his footsteps. Quality service, integrity, and professionalism serve as hallmarks for T.E. Lott & Company.

Following in your father’s footsteps is not always easy. But, for Thomas “Tommy” Lott Jr., the path became very clear. Thomas “Tommy” Lott Jr. as a young Mississippi State graduate joined his father’s Columbus, Mississippi accounting firm in 1958. Following his father’s death in 1971, Tommy took over as managing partner in 1978, carrying on a family tradition of excellence in accounting practices and services.
Tommy brought his own strengths to the table, blazing a trail of business growth and prosperity. In the firm’s early days, the focus was on individual and corporate tax returns and bookkeeping services. And while that remains the core of T.E. Lott & Company’s business, Tommy paved the way to include services in consulting, financial statement audits, estate planning, and retirement planning.
